I recently reviewed a math based curriculum called ALEKS. ALEKS stands for Assessment and LEarning in Knowledge Spaces. ALEKS is a internet based Math test assessment program. ALEKS covers grades 3-12. ALEKS is subscription internet based. ALEKS is available anywhere you have access to the internet. This unique program uses Artificial Intelligence to target students knowledge. As the teacher you can monitor the child’s learning path as well. PC and Mac Compatible. Prices vary from $19.95 a month per student. $99.95 every 6 months and $179.95 every 12 months.
The program first assess your your student is on their grade state level. I thought that was interesting to see where my daughter compared with the State standards. After assessment the program shows a pie graph and where the child is mastery or needs work. You can click on those parts of the pie and is is broken down into sub-groups.
For instance. Geometry was part of the pie graph. We have not gone over cylinders, liters and such. So the program gave my student a series of questions to practice. If she answered 2-3 correct in that category her graph reflected she understood that type of problems. We worked directly off the pie graph at that point working on each area. In the lower grade levels it also has Quick Tables program which works on math facts drilling. I found it took anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour depending how much we covered. . The program then will reassesses at different points throughout the lessons.
I liked the way the program narrowed down the areas my student excelled in , knew little about or needed help in. I found that to be extremely helpful. As homeschoolers where we live we are not required to do state testing. I liked learning what other 3rd graders may have covered that year. ALEKS currently offers a Free 2 month trial. I would encourage you to take the offer. I found it very beneficial for my daughter’s assessment.
*I received a trail online subscription to use ALEKS to review in exchange for my honest review. *
To see what other TOS Crew members are saying sail on over.
